Hospitality and Happiness -
Two aspects that are vital to effective coaching
All experienced coaches know that "clients own the agenda." That is, the client sets the topic and direction for the coaching relationship. Coaches, in turn, take responsibility for facilitation. In this presentation, two topics — happiness and hospitality — will be introduced as vital components of effective coaching facilitation. Dr. Robert Biswas-Diener will draw on the results of research to explain why these topics are beneficial in general and to the coaching relationship specifically. In each case, he will discuss specific ways that these two topics can inform coaching practice and, where relevant, he will provide examples from coaching.
Dr. Robert Biswas-Diener is certified as a coach from both the ICF and Gallup. As a researcher, Robert has published more than 70 peer reviewed articles on topics as wide-ranging as strengths, leadership, social support, learning, culture, and hospitality. He is widely known as a pioneer of positive psychology coaching and often advocates for coaching to be informed by psychological science. Robert has conducted trainings in dozens of nations with organizations such as Standard Chartered Bank, Deloitte, and Australia Department of Defense. Since 2012, he has trained coaches in the effective use of positive psychology techniques at Positive Acorn. Robert is author of the New York Times bestseller, The Upside of Your Dark Side, as well as many other books.
